Main uses: Chloranil (tetrachloro -1, 4-benzoquinone) is a versatile organic oxidizing agent and intermediate.
It is widely used as a mild oxidant in organic synthesis for dehydrogenation reactions, oxidation of alcohols and phenols, and preparation of quinones and aromatic compounds. It serves as a curing agent and cross‑linking agent for polymers, especially in unsaturated polyester resins and rubber products to improve heat resistance and mechanical properties.
In addition, chloranil is used as a dyestuff intermediate and pharmaceutical intermediate, and also acts as a polymer stabilizer and additive in the plastics and coatings industry.
